Loch Ness Gate House

See & Do

Situated on the world famous Caledonian Canal,  The Loch Ness Gate House is extremely handy for jumping onto a cruise on Loch Ness, walking or cycling around The Great Glen or perhaps drive the new circular route around Loch Ness known as Loch Ness 360 degrees.

Fort Augustus is located on the very southern tip of Loch Ness and has historically always been a popular tourist destination.

The village is located pretty much halfway between Inverness and Fort William and it offers spectacular views up Loch Ness and for walkers and cyclists it provides a plethora of beautiful walks around the area, the most famous being the breath-taking Great Glen Way.

The Caledonian Canal Heritage Centre details the history of the canal and visitors can sit in awe watching the boats navigating the feat of engineering that the locks is. You may think you'll stand a watch for a few minutes but as you see the boats rising and falling you may lose track of time!

Travelling further afield, visitors can explore the awesome lochs and mountains by cruising Loch Ness, home, of course, to Nessie, the world-famous Loch Ness monster and take a trip to nearby Urquhart Castle on the banks of the loch.

Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, and ‘the Outdoor Capital of the UK’, Fort William, are around an hour's drive away and the famous Eilean Donan Castle, perhaps the most photographed castle in Scotland, is probably bout the same distance.

Whatever you are looking for from your trip, Fort Augustus will assuredly provide you with a very central base from which to discover this magnificent part of Scotland.
